Why take the CTY Greece exams?
To join our programs, students need take one or both of our designated tests—the SCAT or the STB. Success on these tests helps match them with courses that best suit their talents and interests. Sample tests are available on our website for familiarization; no prior practice is required.

Applications for the SCAT and STB tests are submitted online through a MyCTYGreece account. To apply, visit the EXAMS section of the CTY Greece website and create your account
What is the cost of the exams?
The enrollment fee stands at 40€ per test per student.
Which tests can students take through CTY Greece?
Both tests use out-of-level testing, meaning students are given a test designed for older students.
The SCAT is not about rote memorization or calculation speed. It measures reasoning ability. It is designed to show how students think, not what they have memorized. The SCAT consists of verbal and quantitative sections.
Test levels are organized by grade: Elementary (Grades 2–3), Intermediate (Grades 4–5), and Advanced (Grades 6–9).
The STB is designed for students who excel at understanding and remembering spatial relationships and who prefer visual and graphic representations over text. It is available for students in Grades 6–9.
How do students choose the test that suits them best?
There are no restrictions on taking both tests, aside from grade eligibility. Students should choose based on their familiarity with the content and their personal preference. Note that the STB serves as an alternative to the SCAT Advanced Quantitative section and may be taken only once.
Is test preparation required for the CTY Greece exams?
Students do not need to prepare in advance.
Sample SCAT and STB tests are provided on the CTY Greece website to help them become familiar with the format.
Do students need to complete all sections of each test?
Yes. Students are expected to remain for the entire duration of the test and complete all sections.
What do students need to have with them for the test?
What to bring on exam day:
- Students should bring a valid photo ID—such as an identity card, passport, or birth certificate with a photo. (Photocopies are not accepted.)
- They should also have 2 HB2 pencils (mechanical pencils are not allowed), an eraser, and a manual pencil sharpener. A small bottle of water is optional.
What not to bring:
For a smooth testing experience, calculators, books, PCs or tablets, mobile phones, dictionaries, markers, protractors, scrap paper, notes, pens, rulers, or any devices that produce sound or record audio/video are not permitted in the exam room.
What happens if a student is sick on the day of the test?
If a student is unwell on test day, please contact the CTY Greece office by email or phone as soon as possible. Alternative dates are available, and in larger cities, multiple exam sessions ensure that every student has the opportunity to take the test.
Are students required to enroll in a course if they pass the CTY Greece exams?
No. Passing the CTY Greece exams does not obligate students to participate in any of the programs
Are students required to retest each year to retain eligibility?
No. Students only need to retake the exams when advancing to a higher level—for example, from Elementary to Intermediate or from Intermediate to Advanced. They may, however, choose to take the tests annually to improve their scores. The CTY Greece system automatically records each student’s highest score in every section (verbal and quantitative).
How does a student qualify for academic courses at CTY Greece?
